City of Vancouver publishes Passive Design Toolkit

The city of Vancouver has published a very progressive Passive Design Toolkit for Homes: http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/passive-home-design.pdf and also one for large buildings: http://vancouver.ca/files/cov/passive-design-large-buildings.pdf

We need more jurisdictions to start pushing these types of initiatives to get the ball rolling in terms of efficient design. Winnipeg is one of the coldest cities in the world and yet we use the same building code as the rest of Canada, with some modifications. It seems quite tragic that this city has not pushed the envelope towards super efficient, and super comfortable design rather than just following the pack. Passive House certified buildings are popping up in other parts of Canada http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/actively-pursuing-the-passive-house-in-vancouver/article19408634/ but Winnipeg has yet to see one. Hopefully we will see a project started here soon. I think that the data will speak for itself once these houses are built and perform to their intended design specifications.
